Unlocking the Secrets to Longevity with Haskap Berries

Aging Gracefully with Haskap Berries

Helping people live longer and healthier lives is part of our mission at haskalife™, and it’s also the subject of a recent NYT bestselling book by Dr. Mark Hyman called Young Forever. Synthesizing the latest research in the longevity field, Dr. Hyman’s primary message is that managing and even reversing aging is largely within our grasp, using dietary and lifestyle strategies.

Lessons from Dr. Mark Hyman's 'Young Forever’

In this book, Dr. Hyman identifies inflammation as the root cause of many modern diseases, driven by highly processed foods. Fortunately, he says we can combat our interior inflammation by eating the right foods. According to Hyman, “the good news is that the polyphenols in plant foods are among nature’s best inflammation-fighting compounds. The best place to find these compounds is at the end of the rainbow, the bright pigments and colors found in red, green, yellow, orange and purple plant foods.” (pg 110). Here at haskalife™, we couldn’t agree more, because we know that Haskap berries are loaded with polyphenols!

Later in Young Forever, Hyman recommends a Longevity Diet focusing on “superstar foods” that contain important phytonutrients.  One category of these phytonutrients is anthocyanins, which have cardio and neuroprotective benefits, among many others (page 227). Fortunately, Haskap berries are one of the richest sources of anthocyanins available, with four times the anthocyanins of blueberries!  That’s what we call a superstar food!
