Rex Vandenberg

Rex Vandenberg is the owner of Prairie Hill Farms in Picture Butte, Alberta, where he began cultivating haskap berries in 2013 and soon recognized the need for value‑added processing facilities. In response, he built an in‑house co‑packing plant that not only processes his own berries but also serves other growers in Alberta. A fourth‑generation farmer, Rex has expanded his operation—from haskap to raspberries, rhubarb, beets, and retail offerings like sauces, spreads, and baked goods—all produced on-site. As a partner with haskalife, PHF brings invaluable expertise in sustainable farming, processing innovation, and practical agri‑food entrepreneurship. Rex’s hands-on leadership supports haskalife’s mission to bring high‑quality, Alberta‑grown superberries to global markets with integrity and creative solutions.

Jerry Bouma

Jerry Bouma is a seasoned strategic advisor and agri‑food expert with over 40 years of leadership in agriculture and agri-business. He chairs the Advisory Board at The Little Potato Company and served as the Interim CEO and Director at Alberta’s Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC), bringing deep governance and market‑development experience. He is the Senior Advisor with Diplomat Consulting as well as to the University of Alberta Innovation Fund, reinforcing his reputation for shaping long‑term strategies within Canadian agri‑business. At the international level, Jerry holds the position of Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of the Netherlands and chairs the Edmonton Consular Corps. As Chair of Haskalife’s Advisory Board, Jerry applies this wealth of insight—combining value‑chain strategy, institutional governance, and sector trends—to strengthen our market positioning and growth pathways. His leadership ensures haskalife delivers both high‑quality supply and business excellence across the board.

Trevor MacLean, MBA, BMgt, FEA is a Partner on MNP’s Agriculture team in Lethbridge and leads its national TransitionSmart initiative, providing advisory services to agricultural producers across Canada. With over two decades of experience, he delivers strategic, customized solutions that help agribusinesses manage risk, improve operational performance, and seize emerging opportunities. Trevor’s deep understanding of agribusiness, financial services, and strategy brings a valuable perspective to his governance role. As a member of haskalife’s Board, he offers leadership and strategic insight that enhance our market positioning and sustainable growth strategy. Trevor holds an MBA from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge, and Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) designation. He has served on numerous boards throughout his career.
